East African Art
Art, creativity and community at the heart of Uganda
East African Art is a creative workshop project that connects art, craftsmanship and community with social development for children and young people in Uganda.
The project is carried out in close collaboration between Help Africa and Maillah, a university‑educated Ugandan artist and creative facilitator.
Maillah is not only a talented visual artist – she also works with handicrafts, creative processes and baking, and has a unique ability to meet children and young people at eye level.
In the workshop, the children take part in activities such as:
- painting and visual arts
- handicrafts and creative techniques
- baking and shared kitchen activities
The focus is not on talent or performance, but on the joy of creating something with your hands – and on being seen, heard and acknowledged.
Art with a purpose
The artworks created and sold through East African Art have one clear purpose: All proceeds go directly back into the workshop and into Maillah’s continued work with children and young people within Help Africa and the local community.
This means that every artwork sold – and every donation – contributes to:
- materials and equipment for the workshop
- creative activities for children and young people
- development of local skills and capacities
- a safe and meaningful community
Support the project
