Fatuma Nabirye

She stays with her mother in Katanga slum during holidays but studies from a poor school in the village because of school fees. The mother is hired in a small saloon in the slum  a hair dresser in a small saloon in Katanga but paid at the end of the month and what she gets is very little to cater for school fees, pay rent and buy food for the whole months. The father abandoned them and married another woman. She is looking for an opportunity of education in a good school.

Mwesi Ahmed

He was born in September 2007. He is about 8 years old.  He has spent the whole year of 2015 without going to school because of lack of school fees. The mother stays in the village and has no job to give her money to take Ahamed in school. The father died of HIV/AIDS four years back. He is now under the care of her sister who stays in Katanga slum and she has a child of 8 years old  to take care of. The sister has no permanent job and sometime she washes people’s cloths to earn a living. The sister tried to take him to one of the small schools in the slum but she could not afford paying his school fees in time. Ahmed's sponsor stopped in January 2017, he is searching for another sponsor to take him back to school.

Okumu Reagan. 26th May, 2009
 

Background: Reagan lives in Katanga slum with his parents and 3 other siblings. His father is a cobbler who used to repair old shoes in the slum and in the nearby streets. Unfortunately, his items were confiscated by the Kampala city Authority last year, because of selling on the streets and right now he has no job to take care of the family.Reagan’s mother is a causal worker, without a permanent job. She does any job that comes along such as washing clothes. This is unfortunately not enough to cater for home needs and pay school fees at the same time.Reagan is always on and off school because of lack of school fees. He is looking for an opportunity of getting a stable education in a good school.

 
Nagibu Ndugwa. Born 13th July, 2006.

Background: He stays in Katanga slum with his mother and other 4 siblings. The mother removes beans from their pods but the money she gets is very little to pay school fees, rent and look after the family. He was abandoned by his father when Nagibu was still very young. The child he is always on and off school because of lack of school fees. The school that he sometimes attends is a very poor school that is also in the slum. Nagibu is now looking for an opportunity of getting a sponsor to support his education.

Aguti Phoebe. Born on 4th May, 2003

Background: The father abandoned the family 4 years back and they have never seen him again. The mother works as a maid in an Indian home where she earns 24 dollars per month. The money she earns is very little take care of the family and pay school fees for the children. Phoebe stays with her mother and 4 siblings in a small single house in Makerere slum. She studies in a poor school near her home and has always been on and off school because of school fees. She is looking for an opportunity of getting a sponsor and join a good school.

Nakyazze Jovia. Born: 28th September, 2005

She stay with her mother and two other sibling in Katanga slum. The mother is a hawker and she sells second hand shoes to earn a living. She earns little money which cannot support her family and sometimes she sends Jovia and her siblings to the village to be with their grand mother because of the situation at home like feeding. Their father abandoned them. Jovia has spent 2 terms without going to school because of school fees.  Right now she is looking for an opportunity of getting good education.

Mayanja Steven Roberts, born 4th July 2000

He lost his mother when he was four years old and was left with just his father and four of his siblings. He lives in Katanga slum with his father and stepmother. The father works as a cleaner at a petrol station to help him earn a living and take care of his family. With this money he needs to pay rent, buy the basic needs like food and pay school fees at the nearby schools near the slum. Steven had a sponsor but the sponsor stopped in May 2012 and the other sponsor stopped recently in January 2017, he we had to stop him from going to school. Right now he is searching for another sponsor to help her continue with school. 

Kajjumba Diana. 9 years old.

She stays in Katanga slum. She is ever on and off school due to lack of school fees. Its coming to one year since she left school. She lives with her mother who works as a waitress in a small restaurant in the slum. Diana's father is a drunkard and separated from her mother. He doesn't support the child in any way and yet the income that Diana's mother earns, can barely pay for house rent let alone pay school fees. They share a single room with another woman in order to be able to be to foot the house rent. Diana is looking for an opportunity to go back to school.

Musumba Aaron. Born 28th August, 2008

He stays with her mother and 2 siblings in a small single house in Katanga slum. The mother is a street sweeper but he takes long to be paid and from what she earns she cannot save for school fees apart from paying house rent and feeding. Aaron’s father died of a liver problem 5 years back when he was 2 years old. He is always and off school because of school fees. Right now Aaron is looking for a sponsor to give him a stable education like other children

Kizito Erick. Born 15th September, 2009

Background: He has spent half the year  without going to school. Erick has 5 siblings and he stays in Katanga slum with their mother. Two of siblings with the relatives because the mother couldn’t take care of them. The mother is hired to wash cloths for people in the slum where she is paid 5,000 Uganda shillings a day.  She uses the money she earns to buy food, pay house rent, and not much is left for school fees. Erick is searching for a sponsor who can take him back to school.

Bakasibira Jonathan Hakim. Born 5th March, 2009.

He stays with his mother and 2 siblings in a small single room house in Katanga slum. They can not afford to rent their own house, so the mother is renting the room  together with a friend. The parents separated in 2012. The mother is hired to wash people’s cloths and sometimes removes beans from their pods, to earn less than half a dollar a day. Jonathan missed the last term of 2015 because of lack of school fees. He is looking for an opportunity of going back to school this year

Kamya Kitumba Jeremiah. 7 years old.

He he lives with his mother and other 5 siblings in katanga slum. The father died and the mother is a baby sweater, she looks after people’s children and he earns less than a dollar per head. She also washes people's cloths as another job so that she gets more money to take care of the children. He has spent the whole 3 moths of September, November and December without going to school because of school fees. He is now searching for a sponsor to give him a stable education.

Namagembe Sharitah, 28th February, 2009

She stays with her mother and younger brother in a single roomed house in Katanga slum.The mother is hired to work in a small restaurant in the slum. The money she gets a day caters for food and she saves some for house rent.The father lives in the village and he is a potter. Sharitah is always on and off school because of school fees. She is looking for an opportunity of getting a sponsor and have a stable education.

Nabasumba Prossy. Born 8th December,2006

She stays with her mother and 5 siblings in Katanga slum. The father went to stay in the village 2 years back and he is a potter but sometimes visits them. The mother has a small stall were she sells tomatoes and charcoal in the slum. Prossy has not studied for half the year of 2016 because of lack of school fees. She is searching for a sponsor to take him back to school

Jitta Daniel. Born 28th March, 2002.

He was abandoned by his father 5 years back. He is now staying with the mother in Katanga slum and other 4 siblings. The mother is a hair dresser and she does the work from home since she cannot afford renting a place. The money she earns from the work she does can not support the whole family with food, rent, and paying school fees. Daniel has been on and off school because of lack of school fees. He was once sponsored but his sponsor stopped in 2017, right now he is searching for another sponsor to take him back to school

Namubiru Rehema. Born 28th December, 2005

She lives with 6 people in a single roomed house in Katanga slum. The father is a hawker, he sells oranges and beans on the streets. The mother is hired to remove beans from their pods. From their small jobs they earn very little money which could not take care of the family. Among the 5 children only Rehema and one sibling go to school but they have spent half the year without going to school because of lack of  school fees. She is looking for an opportunity of going back to school and have a stable education.

Kalungi Dorah. Born 30th December, 2006

The father abandoned his family 4 years back. Dorah stays with her mother and 2 siblings in a small single roomed muddy house in Katanga slum. The mother is hired to sell tea in Kampala. Dorah has spend 6 months of 2016 without going to school because of lack of school fees and she is looking for an opportunity of going back to school.

Mugume Luke. Born 10th May 2004

Both his parents died 10 years back and he lives in Katanga slum with his auntie and 4 cousins. The auntie owns a small home business where she earns a living by charging other people’s phones.  The money she earns is not enough to pay for her children’s school fees and also for Luke. He is looking for a sponsor to help him go back to school.  

Wamunga Vicant

He is about 11 years old but his exact date of birth is unknown. His mother left them 5 years ago and he stays with his father, 6 siblings and step mother in a single roomed house in Katanga slum.  The father works as a conductor in taxis where he gets money to take care of the family. Vicant is always on and off school because of lack of school fees. He is looking for an opportunity of getting a stable education

Mugisha Ali. Born 27th August, 2004.

The father abandoned his family in 2009 and since then they have never seen him. He stays with her mother and 2 siblings in a single roomed house in Katanga slum. She washes cloths for people in the slum where she earns money to take care of her children but what she gets is enough to save for Ali’s school fees yet they have to eat and pay rent. Ali has spent 6 months without going to school because of lack of school fees. He is looking for an opportunity of going back to school

Kabanda Ronnie. Born 29th February 2006

He has spent the whole year of 2016 without going to school because of school fees. His father abandoned the mother when she has just got pregnant of Ronnie, since then they have never seen him again. He stays with his mother and a sister in a small single house in Nasana. She works as a waitress by serving food in a small poor restaurant near her home where she earns less than a dollar a day (0.55 USD). This money she earns can only feed them, even paying rent on it is a big struggle. Ronnie is looking for an opportunity of going to school and have a stable education

Namboowa Patricia, born 7th November 2003

Patricia lost her father when she was still very young and is now staying with her mother in Nabweru. Before she was sponsored, she was on and off school because her mother had no job and she could not pay for her school fees because the small job she had at the Diamond house as a house maid was over and since then she had never got a job anywhere. Sometimes she gets money to survive by doing small jobs around her home such as washing people’s clothes but they pay her little. When Patricia got sponsorship, the mother was relieved from the burden of having to pay the school fees. Patricia was sponsored before but she lost her sponsor and she is now searching for a new sponsor family to help her continue with her education

Kantono Halima

She is 9 years old and a sister to Mukose Badru.  She lives in Katanga slum with her mother with 2 other siblings. The father died in 2013. Halima’s mother used to sell maize along side the road but she had to stop because she and other vendors were banned from selling on the roads. Halima stopped going to school 5 years back and right now she is not at school. The mother has no job and could not continue to support her children’s education at the poor school in Katanga. Halima had a sponsor before but stopped recently and right now sos searching for another sponsor to take care of her school fees and have a stable education.

Sserugo Edrisa. Born 3rd November

He is a sister to Nakayima Zam. He stays in a one roomed house in Katanga slum with her mother and other 4 siblings. The mother sells maize from home to take care of her family by looking for school fees, paying rent for the house and buy food for her children but the profit she gets is too little to take care of all the family need. The father died. Before he was sponsored he was not in school because of lack of school fees. Edrisa was sponsored before but his sponsor stopped and he is now looking for another sponsor to help him continue with school.

Kigozi Frank. Born 26th June 2001

Before sponsorship, he had spent one month without going to school and he used to be on and off school because the father couldn’t give him stable education since he earned little which could not support them with everything. The father is a motor cyclist (boda boda cyclist) who drives people as his job. He stays with both her parents and the mother is jobless, she only takes care of the four kids while Frank is the 1st born children at home. He had a sponsor who stopped and we had to take him out of school. He lost his sponsor in January 2017. Frank is looking for another opportunity of getting a new sponsor to help him continue with his Education.

Okello Michael, born 9th November 2001

He lost his father to a motor car accident when he was still young and had to leave school because the mother could not afford to pay his school fees due to lack of  money. She had no job and had to depend on her sister for food and paying rent. The mother used to rent a small single muddy house in Naguru slum but after her sister died in 2016, she took the responsibility of her 5 children and right now they are leaving in her house. Michael has been sponsored for 7 years but his sponsor stopped recently, he is looking for another sponsor to support his Education because he will be moved out of school very soon. His mother has also managed to pick herself up by doing a small job picking coffee for a small wage but the money is not enough to take Micheal and other children to school

Bwanika Fahad, born 2nd December, 2005.

He stays with his mother in a small single house in Katanga slum. The mother cooks and sells food in the slum to earn a living. He was abandoned by his father when he was very young and he never got the chance of seeing him. He is always on and off school because the mother could not afford paying all the school fees at once in a term as well as pay for rent and other basic needs, with the money that she makes from selling food. Fahad was sponsored before but his sponsor stopped and he is looking for another opportunity of getting a stable Education by searching for another sponsor to help him continue with school next semester of August.
