Background: Before sponsorship Daniel was on and off school due to lack of school fees. For a long while his father had no job, they  were depending on different people to help them with food.

Daniel only visits his mother and siblings in the village one in a year during holidays. Daniel had a sponsor before but unfortunately he stopped at the beginning of 2014. Background: Juuko lost his mother to HIV/Aids and he never got a chance of knowing her or seeing her.  His father who later died in 2017 abandoned him when he was still very young and he has grown up from his grandmother’s home in Mende Wakiso.

The grandmother has been taking care of him since childhood. She is a peasant farmer who grows food on a small piece of land for home consumption. They are sometimes being helped by well-wishers in case of other issues where they cannot support themselves. For Juuko was in a poor small school in the village, which pay little money but with poor education system. When Juuko got a sponsor family and started taking care of his education, he was moved to a good school in Kampala. His sponsors are very proud of him.

Background: Jordan stays with his mother and siblings in a small single house in Katanga slum, his parents separated and the father takes long to provide for the family. Before Jordan was sponsored in 2015, he had been out of school for 6 months because of lack of school fees. As a source of income, the mother  cooks and sells food from her home in Katanga slum. From the small income that the mother earns, she is not able to cater for the family basic needs as well as offer a stable education to Jordan and his siblings. Jordan is sponsored by a loving family and  getting a stable education.

Background: Before Brian was sponsored in 2012 ,he was working as a cleaner in the public toilets in Katanga slums in order to able to pay for himself school fees in a low standard school. He was always off school since he was earning very little to afford a stable education. Brian’s father died in 2013, he stays with his HIV POSITIVE mother and 4 siblings in a very small single roomed room in Katanga Slum .The mother is hired as a street sweeper where she earns a small income but on and off work because she is very weak and sickly. Sometimes the family depends on well wishers and neighbours around for food since the mother earns very little to be able to save for food and school fees  Ever since Brian was sponsored, he has been in school and getting a stable education

Masake Cynthia

Masake Cynthia. Born 2nd February 2002.

Background: Cynthia was abandoned by the father and she is staying with her mother who washes people’s cloths for a living. Before sponsorship  Cynthia  had spent the whole year of 2009 with out going to school because of lack of school fees. Cynthia  together with her brother used to join the mother by helping  in washing cloths so that they can get money for food and house rent.

      When Cynthia was sponsored, she was very happy to go back to school like other children.

Background: Annet stays in a small single roomed house in Katanga slum with her very old mother and siblings. The mother has a very small stall outside their house on which she sells vegetables and fruits in order to earn a living. She earns a dollar as a  profit per day  which is not enough to take care of all the family needs as well as save for Annet’s school fees. Her father disappeared from their home in 2014 and they have never seen him again.

      Before Annet was sponsored, she had spent the whole year of 2015 without going to school because of lack of school fees.  Annet is now sponsored by a loving family and getting a stable education.

Background: Before Patrick was sponsored in 2015, he was off school for 6 months because of lack of school fees. His mother removes beans from their pods as a source of income from which she earns very little money to look after the family and save for Patrick’s school fees. His father is a drunkard and doesn’t support the family in anyway. The mother has 3 children and Patrick is the second born. Patrick is now sponsored and getting a stable education.

Kiwanuka Hamza

Background: Hamza lost his father and mother to HIV/AIDS. He stays with his grandmother in Mukono who is taking care of him and his other Cousins. The grandmother is also HIV positive and she is on medication. She has a small garden where she grows food to feed the family.  Before Hamza was sponsored, he was going to a small poor school nearby their home and was always on and off school because of lack of school fees.

Hamza is now sponsored and happily going to school.

Bwanika Fahad

Background: He stays with his mother in a small single house in Katanga slum. The mother cooks and sells food in the slum to earn a living. He was abandoned by his father when he was very young and he never got the chance of seeing him. He is always on and off school because the mother could not afford paying all the school fees at once in a term as well as pay for rent and other basic needs, with the money that she makes from selling food. Fahad was sponsored before but his sponsor stopped. Right now he has been re-sponsored and very happy to continue with school like other children.
