Daphine’s father died in 2013 and her mother is mentally ill and stays in the village. Daphine has been staying with her grandmother since she was 2 years old. They stay in a small single roomed house with her sibling and 4 other relatives in a small slum in Rubaga.
Daphine’s grandmother does not have a permanent job and in order to look after the children, she washes peoples’ clothes from which she earns 1.5 or 2 dollars only when she does the washing.
From her grandmother’s small income, Daphine goes to a nearby poor school but frequently misses out on school because of lack of school fees.
Daphine admires attaining a good stable education so that she can grow up into an important people and make a difference in the community.
