Florence’s father died years ago and she was abandoned by her mother at her grandmother’s home in Katanga slum when she was 3months old. Her grandmother is HIV POSITIVE and most of the times she is weak because of the illness. She has a daughter who is also HIV POSITIVE and they stay in a one roomed small house with her 2 grandchildren. To earn a living, her grandmother is hired to remove peas from their pods during the day and sell bananas at night on the streets nearby the slum to earn some income to be able to take care of herself and the children. Her grandmother earns very little to take care of the family basic needs as well as save for the children’s school fees.
Florence was sponsored in Mid 2015 but her sponsor stopped in 2018 and before sponsorship, Florence could not read nor write because she always missed school due to lack of school fees.
Right now she looking for another chance to be re-sponsored so that she can continue with her education to achieve a bright future.
